Our Philosophy |
|
The New England Legends Player Development Academy Fall Clinic is designed
for the serious basketball player who is entering middle school through
those that are entering their senior year in high school. The foremost goal
of the fall clinic is to help this athlete improve their game so that they
can not only make the team they wish but also impact that team and compete
at a high level. Though there is no guarantee that any player will achieve
athletic success, we believe that a fundamentally solid player with a high
basketball IQ has an advantage over a physically superior, but skill limited
player, and is more likely to find success. Our clinic is geared towards
developing the foundation needed for a player to be both a technically and
tactically solid player.
|
|
The foundation needed to become a technically and tactically solid player
is created by teaching the proper execution of the game's basic fundamental
skills as well as by teaching the key tactical concepts needed to play
the game at a high level. Athletes will learn and practice proper ballhandling,
shooting, passing and footwork technique so that they will have the ability
not only execute them, but do so in competitive situations against superior
ahtletes. In addition to teaching how to properly do things like dribble,
shoot, and pass, we spend a significant amount of teaching time working
on the tactical concepts players need to know in order to compete against
older, more seasoned players. We use highly focused, small sided games
(1 v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3), to teach the players how to read the game and react
appropriately. This builds what is known as basketball IQ. A high basketball
IQ helps players use their understanding of the game to either overcome
their phyiscal limitations or maximize their physical gifts to be highly
competitive.
|
| The Fall Clinic is intended to be a small higly focused learning experience.
It is ideal for the athlete that knows they enjoy playing the game of basketball
and is looking for quality instruction to improve their level of play. It
is not intended for players who really have not played much basketball nor
those who do not enjoy the game enought to want to work at improving their
play. Enrollment is limited to 25 players per session. This affords the
coaching staff the time to work with the players. Each session is
tightly scripted to create a serious learning experience. We place a heavy
emphasis on paying attention and working on what is taught to improve. Beside
is a typical session schedule.

About Us |

Paul Heinsohn - Director

|
The New England Legends Player Development Academy was started by Paul Heinsohn.
The son of Boston Celtics Legend, Tommy Heinsohn, Paul has a lifetime of
experience with the game of basketball. A well know technical coach, Paul
has coached in several local AAU programs as well at Xaverian High School
where his Freshman teams posted a .650 winning percentage and periannally
finished in first place amongst the Catholic Conference freshman teams.
Prior to joining the Xaverian coaching staff Paul ran the girl’s basketball
program at Blessed Sacrament School where he transformed a historically
losing program into a league powerhouse. A former stand out athlete at Catholic
Memorial High School where he earned All Conference honors for basketball
and both All Scholastic and All American honors for football. Paul went
on to become a standout member of the Duke University football team until
his career was ended by injury |
In addition to Paul, the Fall Clinic will be staffed by seasoned basketball
coaches who are selected not only on the basis of their technical basketball
knowledge, but also on their ability to translate that knowledge to young
athletes.
