The New England Legends Player Development Academy Summer
Clinic is designed for the serious basketball player who is
entering middle school through those that have completed their
freshman year. The foremost goal of the summer clinic is to
help this athlete improve their game so that they can progress
to the high school level and compete at a high level. Though
there is no guarantee that any player will achieve athletic
success, we believe that a fundamentally solid player with
a high basketball IQ has an advantage over a physically superior,
but skill limited player, and is more likely to find success.
Our clinic is geared towards developing the foundation needed
for a player to be both a technically and tactically solid
player.
The foundation needed to become a technically and tactically
solid player is created by teaching the proper execution of
the game's basic fundamental skills as well as by teaching
the key tactical concepts needed to play the game at a high
level. Athletes will learn and practice proper ball handling,
shooting, passing and footwork technique so that they will
have the ability not only execute them, but do so in competitive
situations against superior athletes. In addition to teaching
how to properly do things like dribble, shoot, and pass, we
spend a significant amount of teaching time working on the
tactical concepts players need to know in order to compete
against older, more seasoned players. We use highly focused,
small sided games (1 v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3), to teach the players
how to read the game and react appropriately. This builds
what is known as basketball IQ. A high basketball IQ helps
players use their understanding of the game to either overcome
their physical limitations or maximize their physical gifts
to be highly competitive.
The Summer Clinic is intended to be a small highly focused
learning experience. It is ideal for the athlete that knows
they enjoy playing the game of basketball and is looking for
quality instruction to improve their level of play. It is
not intended for players who really have not played much basketball
or those who do not enjoy the game enough to want to work
at improving their play. Enrollment is limited to 25 players
per session. This affords the coaching staff the time to work
with the players. Each daily session is tightly scripted to
create a serious learning experience. We place a heavy emphasis
on paying attention and working on what is taught to improve.
